Golf Courses in South Africa - Durban Country Club
The
golf course was designed and constructed in 1922 by George Waterman and
Laurie Walters. The course is a challenging layout in a sub tropical setting
and has reverential status all over the world. In 1992 it received 52nd
place in "Golf Magazine's" biennial rankings of top international
golf courses.
The undulating fairways are bordered by lush vegetation and several species
of indigenous trees.
It has indigenous Umgeni grass greens that are amongst the truest and
finest putting surfaces in South Africa. The wind, which can blow form
any direction, can be a great influence on the difficulty of the course.
The maintenance and condition of the course has always been outstanding
with the par 5 third hole acknowledged as one of the best in the country.
